Using nanotube technology, researchers have created transparent circuits that can be crumpled without affecting operation.
The team, from the University of Tokyo and the Tokyo University of Science, built the field effect transistor completely from carbon nanotubes and a thin substrate of polyvinyl alcohol. This created a flexible and transparent circuit, with the polyvinyl alcohol acting as a thickening agent.
The 15 micrometer transistor can be folded around the edge of a paperclip while still functioning, although its performance began to decrease the more times it was bent.
