A portable diagnostic device able to detect disease markers quickly and accurately could offer faster treatment possibilities.
The team at Duke University developed their D4 assay diagnostic tool by ink-jet printing an array of antibodies onto a glass slide with an innovative polymer brush coating. This coating prevents contamination by unwanted proteins, and makes it easier to detect low levels of the target proteins. According to the team, the D4 assay allows researchers to follow a simpler workflow, with results within a little as fifteen minutes.
