DETECT Concussion Detector Can Be Used on the Scene

DETECT Concussion Detector Can Be Used on the Scene
Oct-08-14
The DETECT system is able to quickly detect the early signs of a concussion, and could find its way both to sports fields and battlefields.

Current methods of diagnosing a concussion involve having the injured person perform a series of tests for a trained individual in a controlled environment. If a concussion is detected, the patient then receives a CT scan and more evaluation.

The DETECT computerized system simplifies the early evaluation process by eliminating the need for a separate, quiet testing area. Instead, the device fits over the patient's eyes and ears to create an immersive environment. Once in place, the DETECT will display a series of mTBI neuropsychological exams that the patient responds to using a video game-like controller. The test takes less than 15 minutes to complete, making it much easier to detect a concussion quickly and seek immediate treatment.
