Dew Collector Greenhouse Gathers Water for Arid Farms

Dew Collector Greenhouse Gathers Water for Arid Farms
Mar-21-15
The Dew Collector greenhouse from Roots Up could offer drought-burdened and arid land farmers a new and affordable way to grow their crops.

Like many greenhouses, the pyramid-shaped greenhouse traps heat and humidity during the day to provide a more idealized growing environment for the plants within. As an added bonus, particularly for dry areas, the greenhouse is designed to catch the water that evaporates as temperatures increase during the day and drop at night. The top of the structure will collect the daytime water vapor before it can be released into the atmosphere, and at night the top is opened to allow the water to condense and fall into a collection reservoir. The water can then be used for the plants or as safe drinking water.

Roots Up is small, non-profit company located in Ethiopia and affiliated with Ethiopia's University of Gondar.
