Diagnosing Parkinson's With a Typing Test

Diagnosing Parkinson's With a Typing Test
Apr-04-15
A typing test that provides an early stage diagnosis of Parkinson's disease could offer patients the opportunity to begin treatment sooner.

Researchers at MIT developed the test by creating an algorithm that uses typing speed to detect if the signals from the brain to the fingers have been slowed. The focus of the study was to determine if fatigue could be assessed through typing, but its success could also bring us a bit closer to a keyboard test able to diagnose the onset of motor-impairing diseases like Parkinson's.
