Disease-Fighting Therapeutic Blood

Mar-10-18 The biotech startup Rubius Therapeutics is developing a ‘superblood’ that will be able to treat a wide range of diseases—including cancer.

The technology behind the company’s blood treatment relies on genetically engineered, enucleated red cells that can be loaded with proteins able to kill tumors or activate T-cells to fight cancer or autoimmune diseases. Called Red-Cell Therapeutics, the blood-borne method is ideal for treating solid tumors, which have an established, leaky vascular system.

Rubius Therapeutics has already gathered immense interest from investors, receiving record-breaking financing in 2017.
