An innovative in-flight battery swapping system could keep drones in the air for an almost unlimited span of time.
Created by a team from the UC Berkeley HiPeRLab, the prototype system relies on a quadcopter drone equipped with a docking tray that will accept a smaller, flying battery drone. The battery drone will land on the dock, where it will charge the larger drone and then fly away, allowing the next battery drone to take its place.
