Electric Mesh Boosts Weak Hearts

Electric Mesh Boosts Weak Hearts
Jul-02-16
An innovative electric mesh that wraps around the heart to boost it with electrical impulses could offer a new treatment for people with weakened or damaged hearts.

The mesh is made up of a rubber polymer embedded with nanowires that will stretch to fit the heart. Once in place, the mesh will deliver an electric current to the entire heart muscle.

According to the team, the electric mesh is an improvement over current options, such as pacemakers, because it more closely mimics the heart’s actual physiology by delving the current over the entire organ, rather than only specific places.
