Elevating House Lifts over Floods

Elevating House Lifts over Floods
Nov-10-16
The innovative Elevating House from Larkfleet will raise itself on stilts to escape a flood.

The house was designed with an eye for the many areas that lie in floodplains, so are not suitable for home building. To expand possible building sites, the three-bedroom house is equipped with a mechanical jacking system able to raise the house five feet off the ground in about five minutes. A solar system on the roof would keep the house powered while elevated, and water and sewage connections would also remain in place. The homeowners would still need to evacuate the home, but at least the building would have a chance to escape the floodwaters as well.
