Scientists have created an energy-harvesting "tree" able to gather energy from multiple sources, including solar and kinetic.
The tree, developed by a team from the VVT Technical Centre of Finland, is based on their earlier OPV (organic photovoltaic) leaves. These leaves, originally designed to harness light, have been equipped with individual multi-power converters that also allow them to generate electricity from vibrations and temperature changes. The leaves have been attached to a 3D-printed body, which the team says demonstrates how easily the design can be scaled up.
