Evo Game Diagnoses and Treats Cognitive Decline

Evo Game Diagnoses and Treats Cognitive Decline
Apr-28-14
The Evo game is more than colorful and easy to play, it can also be used to diagnose and treat cognitive problems.

The game, developed by Akili Interactive Labs, asks users to tilt an iPad or iPhone to steer an alien down a river while also tapping the screen when a specific animal appears. Success in the game depends on the player's ability in what scientists call interference processing, which is linked to skills in multitasking.

A number of conditions, including old age, depression and Alzheimer's, can cause a reduction in interference processing, but the team will currently be focusing their research on identifying people suffering from Alzheimer's while also determining whether a regular habit of playing the game could lessen the symptoms of the disease.
