Evzio Auto-Injector Reverses Drug Overdose Effects

Apr-04-14 The FDA has recently approved an auto-inject device, called Evzio, which will quickly reverse the effects of an opiate overdose.

The handheld Evzio device auto-injects a single dose drug called naloxone, a standard treatment for overdose, and can be used by caregivers or family members to treat a person with a suspected drug overdose. The device is small enough to be easily carried or stored in a medicine cabinet, and is much simpler to use than the standard syringe delivery method.

Drug overdose deaths are now the leading cause of injury death in the US, exceeding even motor vehicle accidents.
