The FibriCheck app can detect signs of atrial fibrillation via the smartphone’s camera, increasing the likelihood of prompt medical attention.
Recently receiving FDA clearance, the FribriCheck app can detect irregular heart rhythms, including atrial fibrillation, using photoplethysmography. The user simply places their finger over the lens of the smartphone’s camera and then activates the app, triggering the camera to watch for changes in the blood vessels as the heart pumps blood through them. That data can then be used to determine any underlying heart conditions and prompt the user to seek medical attention.
