Fine Tuning Hearing Aids

Fine Tuning Hearing Aids
Jun-16-11
New "hearing dummies" software could aid in the design of hearing aids, allowing them to be specifically tailored for individual client's needs.

The software, developed by a team from the University of Essex, is able to more precisely determine the type of hearing loss of the client, placing an emphasis on a variety of more commonly encountered higher-level sounds. A computer algorithm is adjusted based upon the results of the tests, creating the hearing dummy.

Soon the dummy model could be used to indicate what is causing the hearing loss, and eventually it could be used to fine-tune hearing aids for specific needs.
