Fleetlights Drones Escort You Home

Fleetlights Drones Escort You Home
Nov-19-16
The innovative Fleetlights drones offer an on-demand escort down dark streets.

Developed Direct Line, a UK insurance company, the prototype service would enable users to summon a trio of drones via an app, Uber-like. The drones would then escort the user down the street, shining their bright lights to the sides and ahead. Upon arrival at their destination, the Fleetlights would be commanded to return to their charging base.

Although the Fleetlights are not yet commercially available, Direct Line has made the technology open-source, to allow other developers to work on the project.

I feel like the ultimate genesis of this product will be each person having their own security drone with the capability to contact emergency services and communicate video and audio to those services as well as sound distress alarms and lights when needed. This would not only ensure the safety of a walk home, but deter overall crime. A nonviolent solution. A deterrent of an electrical charge administered to an assailant will probably be suggested at some point, but the nonviolent applications would be the easiest to get approval for. The advent of more and more drone invention will overwhelm the voice of those crying foul due to possible invasion of privacy and the argument can be made for the video audio recording feature only being activated in an emergency situation. The programming to activate those features based on cues not commands from the devices owner will be the most difficult task I suspect.
