Flexible Photonic Device

Flexible Photonic Device
Nov-13-17
A novel photonic device able to bend and stretch could pave the way for skin-mounted devices able to monitor an array of vitals.

Developed by the team at MIT, the flexible photonic device was made by twisting a thin layer of chalcogenide glass into a coil able to stretch and bend like a spring while retaining its optical properties. According to the team, the flexible device could be particularly useful as a strain gauge or in skin-mounted electronics.
