Flexible Ultrasound Patches Offer Better Images

Flexible Ultrasound Patches Offer Better Images
Mar-24-18
Flexible ultrasound patches able to conform to different shapes could offer more accurate imaging of irregularly shaped structures.

Created by a team from the Jacob’s School of Engineering, the flexible patches are made up of an ‘island-bridge’ electronic structure embedded within a silicone elastomer sheet. The islands of electronics are connected by spring-like copper wires, which allows the sheet to flex for better contact on non-flat surfaces, without the need for contact-enhancing gel, water or oil.
