Folding Radiator Keeps CubeSats Cool

Folding Radiator Keeps CubeSats Cool
Mar-06-18
An origami-inspired folding radiator could offer a new way to regulate temperature in tiny CubeSats.

Created by a team at Brigham Young University, the radiator features a structure of V-shaped folds that can be opened or closed via shape memory alloys. The radiator would fold inward to deepen the folds and absorb heat, while a vanadium-oxide coating being developed by NASA scientist Vivek Dwivedi would emit the trapped heat into space.
