Foresee Imaging System Detects Tumor Outlines

Sep-21-15 The Foresee Imaging system is able to visualize the outlines of tumors in real time, resulting in faster and more complete tumor resections and fewer trips to the clinic.

Already proven successful in a trail with 35 women with breast cancer, the system from Diagnostic Photonics uses interferometric synthetic aperture microscopy to detect the tumor’s outlines by analyzing reflected light with a complex algorithm. Although optical imaging is an established medical technique, traditionally the process has required large and bulky equipment. In contrast, the Foresee system replaces hardware with sophisticated algorithms, reducing the system to a handheld unit that can be used in more clinical settings.
