Fully Edible Robot

Researchers have created an edible robot that could be safely ingested after its mission is complete.The robot, developed by the team at EPFL, is made up of segments of gelatin-based actuators that are triggered to bend via a chemical reaction. The actuators could be used to create soft, robotic grippers, or equipped with digestible electronics and sent to explore the intestinal tract.

This will be a welcome replacement to open surgery which often compromise skin integrity and expose patients to variety of post-surgery infections
