Gecko Adds Motion Tracking to Smartphones

Gecko Adds Motion Tracking to Smartphones
Sep-28-13
The Gecko brings a new level of functionality to smartphones, adding both gesture control and motion detection to make smartphones even smarter.

Currently seeking funding on Indiegogo, the Gecko features multiple gestures that can be mapped to control a smartphone’s actions. The small, quarter-sized device also functions as a motion detector and object locator. It can be placed on doors and windows, luggage or in a purse, where it will trigger the smartphone to send an alert if is senses motion. The Gecko can also be set to send an alert if the object is not moved within a certain amount of time, such as the pillbox of a distant loved one. As an object locator, the Gecko app can track anything tagged with the Gecko within a 100 foot radius from the phone.

Hi. I am wondering whether there is some way that this technology could be used to help track down shopping trolleys that often get taken well away from shopping malls and carparks.
I guess it would mean that every trolley would have to be embedded with a Gecko, but the cost may well be well spent when one takes into account the current ongoing cost of replacing "stolen" trolleys.
