Geckskin Mimics Gecko Feet to Adhere to a Range of Surfaces

Geckskin Mimics Gecko Feet to Adhere to a Range of Surfaces
Apr-27-14
The gecko–inspired Geckskin can attach and release easily from a wide range of surfaces, including drywall, glass and wood.

Geckskin works using 'draping adhesion,' an ability the researchers created using a combination of soft elastomers and very stiff fabrics, such as those made from glass or carbon fiber. The adhesive must be applied with the fibers in a certain direction, but once applied, the adhesive can even secure heavy objects to glass. The fibers can be tuned to different degrees of stiffness for use on different surfaces. and Geckskin can be reused many time without affecting its ability.
