Glass Coating for Solar Cells Harvests Light from More Angles

Glass Coating for Solar Cells Harvests Light from More Angles
Dec-17-15
A new glass coating for solar panels that allows the cells to harvest light from different angles could allow for much more flexibility during installation.

The researchers created the glass coating by integrating ultrathin nanorods into and honeycomb nanowalls into the material itself. This enhancement allows the cells to gather sunlight from multiple angles, boosting efficiency from 5.2 to 27.7 percent. As an additional bonus, the coating also resisted dust and other particulates that could cover the panels and reduce light absorption.
