Goodyear's Smarter Tires for Smarter Cars

Goodyear's Smarter Tires for Smarter Cars
Mar-04-16
Goodyear has rolled out two new tire concepts for autonomous cars that could make driverless cars even more responsive and agile.

The Eagle-360 spherical tire concept would see the tire ‘attached’ to the car using magnetic levitation, which would allow the vehicle to rotate in any direction, including sideways. The tire would also be equipped with sensors able to monitor both the local environment and its own tire-health.

The second concept tire, the Intelligrip, was designed to work with the car’s control system. Also embedded with an array of smart sensors, the tire would be able to assess and communicate data about road conditions, prompting the anti-collision system to adjust parameters like stopping distance and cornering.
