Guidesense Wearable Guides with Radar

Guidesense Wearable Guides with Radar
Jan-13-17
The Guidesense chest-worn monitor relies on short-range radar to help the visually impaired navigate.

The Guidesense was designed by Finland’s VTT Technical Research Center to be used outdoors, and can be worn beneath the clothing much like a heart rate monitor. Once in place, the device’s millimeter wave sensing radar array will detect obstacles in the vicinity and alter the wearer with voice feedback or vibrations.

While the technology is not altogether new, the Guidesense has an advantage over similar devices in that it can be worn under the clothing and is not affected by environmental conditions such as darkness or rain.
