Gut Gel Could Help Dieters

Gut Gel Could Help Dieters
Jan-07-14
Researchers have developed a gel that makes the stomach feel full, which could help dieters as they struggle to lose weight.

The gel was created by a team at the University of Birmingham, who discovered a method of combining two ingredients (low acyl and high acly gellan gum) that expand and form a gel when exposed to stomach acid. The gel breaks down slowly, which helps create a feeling of fullness that will reduce the urge to snack or overeat.
Despite their odd names, the gels are derived from seaweed, starch and citrus peel, and are safe to eat.
