A Bristol University team has developed an intelligent handheld robot that performs as an autonomous smart tool to help guide an untrained user through the tasks.
The robots are designed to be aware of the steps needed to carry out a task, as well as whether those steps are being performed, and to have wide range of motion. This allows the handheld bots to both move autonomously and cooperate with the human user to ensure the task is carried out efficiently.
The team is investigating other ways the handheld technology could be of use, and had made their designs open source to encourage ideas from developers.
