Haptic Gas Pedal Cuts Fuel Consumption

Haptic Gas Pedal Cuts Fuel Consumption
Jan-30-16
A new haptic gas pedal from Bosch promises to help drivers drive safely, and save fuel.

The pedal design is based on the idea that one quarter of vehicle fuel consumption is dictated by the pressure of the driver’s foot. In order to help prevent “lead foot,” the pedal will vibrate when it detects driving habits that are not conducive to fuel conservation. The pedal works in conjunction with the electronic system already installed on fuel-conscious vehicles, and will deliver haptic feedback to indicate better driving habits, such as when to shift gears, when to enter “coasting mode,” and when to lessen the pressure on the pedal to remain in electric-only mode (on hybrid vehicles).

The haptic pedal could also communicate with the car's GPS to warn of sharp curves or dangerous speeds.
