Health Monitoring Patch Powered by Smartphone

Health Monitoring Patch Powered by Smartphone
Aug-05-16
Researchers have created a smartphone-powered wearable patch that can monitor the user’s health without the need for batteries.

The patch, created by a team from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is powered using an NFC-enabled smartphone or tablet, which also allows the patch to transmit its data wirelessly to the paired device. The flexible patch is able to measure sun exposure as well as heart and blood oxygen levels, and the absence of a battery allows the patch to slimmer than its counterparts and opens it up to applications in hospitals and sleep monitoring.
