Hydrogel Saves Injured Eyes

Hydrogel Saves Injured Eyes
Dec-09-17
An innovative new hydrogel could help save injured eyes on the battlefield.

The hydrogel was developed by a team from the University of Southern California to help treat the growing number of eye injuries occurring on the battlefield. Compared a bit to ‘superglue for the eyes,’ the hydrogel transitions from liquid when cooled to solid at the eye’s natural temperature, enabling it to create a strong seal when injected into the eye. The gel is used with a special syringe, which quickly brings it down to liquid temperature for injection, and it can be easily removed from the eye with cold water.
