i-Transport Brings Wheelchairs to New Levels

i-Transport Brings Wheelchairs to New Levels
Dec-28-12
The i-Transport wheelchair can be adjusted to suit the user’s needs, allowing them to stand while talking to others or have access to objects out of reach while seated.

Developed by Taiwan's National Cheng Kung University, the i-Transport is able to lift the seated driver to an upright position. The user is supported by the seat, which turns to a near-vertical position, a padded harness against the lower back, shin pads and handlebars at the front for the user to grab onto. More an electronic robotic vehicle than a simple wheelchair, the i-Transport also features an integrated monitoring system that tracks blood pressure and breathing, and can determine whether the vehicle’s load and configuration is safe for the current situation.

Another standing Wheelchair, the Tek Robotic Mobilization Device, was introduced earlier this year by AMS Mekatronic of Turkey.
