Identilock Could Ease Gun Control Debate

Identilock Could Ease Gun Control Debate
May-06-14
The Indentilock gun could help alleviate some of the debate over gun ownership with its biometric lock, which ensures only the registered owner is able to activate it.

Created by Omer Kiyani, who was shot when he was a teenager, the gun's biometric lock can be quickly unlocked—as easily as unlocking an iPhone, according to Kiyani. Once attached to the trigger mechanism, it can only be removed when it is activated by the authorized fingerprints, and it can be added to the gun aftermarket or during manufacturing. The FBI compliant lock also glows in dark, which makes it easy to find in an emergency.

Kiyani hopes the Identilock, which is still in the prototype stage, will help overcome the inevitable opposition from firearm manufacturers with its simple—and optional—approach.

I understand the finger print lock on old manufactured guns. why not for all new guns say starting in the year 2017 need to have the finger print reader on the gun itself. The technology is there. we have finger print readers on most phones and many of the computer manufactures like IBM have it on there laptops. There are even finger print readers that you can install as a separate piece of hardware that can be purchased at any store that sells electronics. I understand that the price of a gun may go up a few bucks if the fingerprint reader is installed. But it wouldn't be by much. I mean you can buy a fully function IPhone for under $500.00 so to take only the finger print technology out of the phone and into the gun might only be a few hundred bucks. Right? I don't know just bringing an idea to the table.
