Inhalable Ebola Vaccine Offers New Treatment Options

Inhalable Ebola Vaccine Offers New Treatment Options
Jul-17-15
A new Ebola vaccine that can be inhaled has proven successful in monkeys, and could offer an easier way to transport and distribute the medicine.

The vaccine was made from the common human virus, human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV3). The team engineered the virus to include Ebola virus genes that would stimulate the production of antibodies in the immune system, and found that the vaccine actually triggered two different kinds of immunity, adding “another layer of protection.”

The vaccine can be administered by untrained staff, an added bonus in areas where medical clinic and personnel are few and far between.
