Injectable Tag Helps Teams Track Salmon

Injectable Tag Helps Teams Track Salmon
Feb-05-15
Researchers have created a tiny injectable tag that could allow them to study fish behavior without interfering with the fishes' behavior or motion.

The tag is meant to replace the larger, surgically-injected tags in use today, which can harm the fish during implantation and add extra weight. The new tag can be implanted using a needle and is about as large as two grains of rice placed alongside each other. It is powered by a specially-designed 3-volt battery, and can be injected in only 20 seconds—an improvement over the two minutes required to implant the previous tags.
