A new method of printing stretchy, flexible circuits could help usher in the next generation of smart fabrics.
While researchers have managed to print circuits already, the technique from the team at Michigan State University is the first that creates circuits that are also elastic. The smart fabrics developed by the team consist of electronic inks made up of organic compounds and nanomaterials that have been dissolved in a solution. A standard inkjet printer then uses the different inks to create complete devices, including the circuits and LEDs.
