The invisible, and eye-safe, Air Umbrella protects you from the rain by directing a flow of air overhead to create a force field that deflects raindrops.
Actually exceeding its funding on Kickstarter, the Air Umbrella comes in three versions—two at fixed sizes and one that can be adjusted. The wand-shaped device is equipped with a powerful motor, a lithium battery, an off/on switch and a control switch that can be used to control the intensity of the air flow. As the device draws in the outside air, the fan forces the air out of the top of the umbrella to form a protective shield large enough for two people to share. The battery life of the Air Umbrella is a bit short—only 15 minutes for the smaller version—making the device most useful for short jaunts.
The team will continue to refine the device, and believes the Air Umbrella will be available by September of 2015.
