Life Jacket Antenna

Life Jacket Antenna
Oct-02-11
A wearable, waterproof antenna that can be sewn into clothes allows rescuers to find missing people by relaying signals to the worldwide search and rescue satellite system.

Developed by researchers at the European Space Agency in conjunction with a Finnish Company, the antenna is meant for life vests. When activated, it transmits a low frequency distress signal to the Cospas-Sarsat distress signal network.

In field tests, the vest wearing person was located in only a few minutes. The antenna is being incorporated into a selection of vests, and an attachable version is also available.
