LuminAR Bulb Makes Any Surface a Touchscreen

LuminAR Bulb Makes Any Surface a Touchscreen
Dec-09-12
The LuminAR works with a standard light fixture to turn any surface into a touch screen.

Developed by a team from MIT and led by Natan Linder, the LuminAR system consists of a Pico-projector, camera and wireless computer. The Luminar Bulb standalone unit allows users to interact with the projection using simple hand gestures, while pairing the bulb with the LuminAR Lamp (an articulated robotic arm) increases control by allowing the user to move the projected image. The LuminAR Lamp will also remember where applications, such as Skype or Twitter, have been located, making it possible to place them in the most useful or logical place.

The LuminAR software can also detect an object in the work space and display targeting information around it, opening the door to applications in retail settings.
