The innovative new MAGEC technology relies on magnetic rods to help treat scoliosis, reducing the amount of surgeries normally required to help straighten the spine.
Typically, growing children who require scoliosis treatments must be subjected to follow-up surgeries every six months or so. As an alternative to this expensive and invasive procedure, the MAGEC (Magnetic Expansion Control Spinal Bracing System) uses implanted rods that can be lengthened magnetically while still within the body in a painless outpatient procedure. The magnetic motors in the rods are powered via a special electromagnet that stretches the rod a small amount on each visit, allowing the spine to straighten and lengthen without additional surgeries.
