May-30-14 The Mealspec flameless heating packet can generate much more heat than conventional options—enough to boil an egg and cook raw fish.

Standard MRE heaters are only able to reach 145° F and can take minutes to heat up. In contrast, the Mealspec can produce enough heat to bring water to just above boiling in only 12 seconds.

Placing the heating packet in the pouch and adding water will trigger the heat-generating chemical reaction, which quickly reaches a peak temperature of 220º F in just seconds. The Mealspec can also maintain temperatures above 180º F for 12 minutes, which is enough heat to cook a fish fillet (in its own pan) as well as prepare standard, prepackaged meals.
