The Mesoloft lets you give you loved ones a send-off that’s out of this world by scattering their ashes on the edge of space.
The Mesoloft ashes-ferrying system consists of a specially-designed container with a trap door and a pair of GoPro cameras attached to a weather balloon. When the balloon reaches the desired height of about 17 miles above the ground (the area of the stratosphere known as near-space,) the trap door is triggered and the ashes are released. The family of the loved one can follow the balloon's ascent in real-time on a special website and are also given a video of the event.
According to the Mesoloft team, the released ashes will stay in the air for months, and could even circumnavigate the earth before returning as rain or snow.
