Medical gloves able to kill microbes on contact offer an alternative to chemicals and help reduce the growth of drug-resistant bacteria.
The gloves, developed by a team from the University of Nottingham, Chemical Intelligence UK and medical glove manufacturer Hartalega Malaysia, are equipped with a proprietary “active microorganism-killing molecule.” The molecule is embedded in the material of the glove, eliminating the need for additional chemicals while also keeping the antibiotic contained. In tests, the gloves were able to kill up to 99.9 percent of bacteria in seconds.
