Microfibers Could Help Treat Brain Injuries

Microfibers Could Help Treat Brain Injuries
Oct-07-16
Researchers have developed a microfiber structure that can support cell growth—and could be used to treat brain injuries.

The “fibrous platforms” can be used to guide cell growth, which is necessary for growing nerve cells or regenerating tendons and blood vessels. The fibers are fabricated using hydrodynamic forces, without extreme pressure or temperature, and are biodegradable and non-toxic.

According to the team, the fibrous structure was able to support the growth of properly aligned neural stem cells.
