Montblanc's e-Strap Adds Tech to Luxury Watches

Jan-06-15 The e-Strap from Montblanc lets users wear a conventional watch while still enjoying the benefits a smartwatch.

Designed to be compatible with Montblanc's TimeWalker watch line, the e-Strap conceals its electronics within a steel case attached to a leather strap at the clasp area. It communicates with a smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0, allowing the user to check social media, preview emails and check appointments, and will vibrate to signal incoming messages, calls or texts. The e-Strap also features an activity tracker and can be used to control a paired smartphone's camera or music player.

Besides offering luxury watch wearers a taste of technology, the e-Strap could help pave the way to "smart components" by offering an alternative to today's expensive—and clunky—smartwatches.
