A new nanotechnology could help track the effects of chemotherapy in the body to determine the safest effective dose.
Although chemotherapy is an excellent cancer fighter, the doses must be carefully controlled to prevent damaging healthy tissue or even causing the cancer to come back even stronger. To that end, the team from Michigan State University created a process that relies on MPI (magnetic particle imaging) and superparamagnetic nanoparticles to monitor drug release in the body at the tumor site. The method is non-invasive and allows doctors to see and adjust the amount of drug being delivered to the tumor in real-time, ensuring the most effective dose.
