New LED Bulb Could Appeal to Old-Fashioned Consumers

New LED Bulb Could Appeal to Old-Fashioned Consumers
Apr-05-14
The new LED bulb from Philips looks and shines just like the familiar incandescent, and may help convince traditionalists to make the switch to LED lights.

The bulb is shaped in the same way as traditional bulbs, and it will shine the light in all directions, rather than focus it on a particular area like most LEDs. With its 2700 color temperature, the bulb's light is warm and white—like that of incandescents—and it can also be dimmed.

Where the bulb differs from the incandescents is in its energy efficiency. The Philips LED can be used in place of a 40W bulb and will provide an output of 470 lumens. It has a lifespan of 25,000 hours, and can offer as much as an 85 percent savings in electricity.
