New Suspension System Could Prevents Bottoming Out

New Suspension System Could Prevents Bottoming Out
Nov-06-15
A Lancaster student has developed a new suspension design that could reduce vehicle maintenance by preventing “bottoming out.”

Designed by 20-year-old Abigail Carson, a Formula-1 fan, the suspension system is made up of network of fixed and moving components that work together to delay the compression and expansion of the shock absorbers. The system also features a physical stop mechanism to prevent bottoming out, and requires less material to manufacture. The system can also be adapted to a range of vehicles, including mountain bikes.

According to Professor Jianqiao Ye, from Lancaster University’s Engineering Department: “Abigail’s design is clearly innovative and there is no similar device available in the market.”
