New Technology Sends Passwords Through the Body

New Technology Sends Passwords Through the Body
Sep-28-16
A new technology that transmits passwords through the body could offer a more secure way to control access to encoded devices.

The system was developed by a team from the University of Washington as an alternative to sending signals wirelessly through the air, where they can be intercepted by hackers. The technology takes advantage of the fingerprint sensor on mobile devices, which uses low-frequency signals to identify the user’s fingerprint. For the new technology, the team “re-purposed” the signals so that they would carry the authentication data from the phone and to an external device—such as a smart door lock—upon contact with the user. This allows the signals to flow more securely, and with much less vulnerability to hackers.
