Prothetic Sockets Made from Plastic Bottles

Prothetic Sockets Made from Plastic Bottles
Aug-26-19
Prosthetic sockets made of waste plastic offer an innovative way to reuse plastic waste.

The prosthetic sockets were created by a team from De Montfort University Leicester using plastic water bottles that were processed to create polyester yarn. That yarn was then heated and molded to create the sockets, which performed as well as typical versions but at a fraction of the cost. According to patients trialing the new sockets, the devices were lightweight and breathable, ideal for use in hot and humid climates.
