Created to give racers an edge during practice, the Puma BeatBot invention gives runners someone—or something—to race against.
The BeatBot was developed by Puma with some help from NASA and MIT students. The square little bot is equipped with a set of downward-facing sensors able to follow the lines on the race track. Users can program the bot with the distance and speed they’d like to go, and then set the bot on the track, where it will follow the lane markings to reach speeds that match current world records. The BeatBot will also record the runner via its rear-facing camera, allowing the athlete to check their form from another angle.
